SHAMBAUGH Leadership’s Women Rise Study

Event Date: October 12, 2024

MCLEAN, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–SHAMBAUGH Leadership has unveiled its latest report, the “Women Rise Study 2024”, which examines the state of the women’s leadership pipeline in Corporate America. This comprehensive study explores critical barriers and enablers to developing a robust pipeline of women leaders at both individual and organizational levels.

The survey gathered insights from over 500 participants across 10 industries in different stages of their career from entry-level to executive roles. The survey’s findings were validated through a series of roundtable discussions that engaged over 100 women at the leadership and executive levels.

Key Findings from the Women Rise Study:

  • Self-Confidence and Courage as Career Enablers: Across all levels, self-confidence and courage emerged as the top enablers for career success.
  • Work-Life Balance as a Major Challenge: Over 60% of respondents identified balancing work and life as their top career challenge.
  • Limited Upward Mobility and Visibility: Over half the women surveyed cited these as the primary barriers to advancement.
  • Microaggressions in Workplace Culture: A negative organizational culture, with microaggressions reported by more than 50% of participants, remains a significant concern.
  • Value of Mentorship and Sponsorship: Mentorship and sponsorship were highlighted as critical for career progression and for making women feel valued and visible within organizations.

It has been reported that it will take another 50 years to achieve full gender parity—a timeline that demands focused commitment and investment. However, Rebecca Shambaugh, President of SHAMBAUGH Leadership and Founder of Women in Leadership and Learning, emphasizes that women don’t have to wait. She urges women to take proactive steps today within their own sphere of influence because of the tremendous impact they have on the bottom line. Studies have also shown that women’s presence in leadership teams increase productivity, enhance collaboration, inspire organizational dedication, and improve organizational trust.

“While the Women Rise Study reveals that many women feel undervalued, passively accepting this reality can lead to a victim mindset rather than positioning themselves as active drivers of their own professional growth,” Shambaugh states.

Rebecca Shambaugh sets a challenge: “The Women Rise Study offers a clear call to action – not only for women, but for men, and for entire organizations and leadership teams – to step up and take their unique part in working together to not only unlock the full potential of women leaders but the broader spectrum of leadership intelligence and capabilities.”
